How much time do you spend in the wine aisle?
Finding a good bottle of wine that you can consistently get locally, that is consistently good and costs a reasonable price has been a goal of mine for many years.
Until now, I hadn't really thought that others would want to know this. But it makes sense that you may want to know about wines I like that don't come exclusively from a wine of the month club (like my favorite red wine clubs).
So, we're starting this series and sharing “the wines that I like: purchased locally“, starting with this blog post about Josh Cellars.
I have consistently enjoyed the Red Blend and the Cabernet Sauvignon products from Josh Cellars and it's one of my go-to bottles. (In particular, I gravitate toward a bottle of Josh Cellars red wine whenever I grill ribeye steaks on the big green egg!)
Exploring Big Brand Wines: One of my favorites: Josh Cellars
Finding a good bottle of wine that’s both readily accessible and consistently delicious can be a real game-changer. (Don't ya hate how much time is wasted in the wine aisle shopping based on label?)
Here's a good suggestion: consider Josh Cellars.
Big brand wines like Josh Cellars make it easy to enjoy quality wine without needing any specialty wine store. Whether you’re a fan of robust reds or crisp whites, Josh Cellars has something to offer, and the best part is that you can find their wines at your local grocery store. Here in Michigan, Josh Cellars wines are available at Kroger stores, making it convenient to grab a great bottle whenever I need one.
Below are my personal favorites from Josh Cellars
Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
If you love full-bodied red wines, Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is a must-have. It’s known for its rich and complex flavors, featuring dark fruits like blackberry and plum, with a hint of vanilla and toasted oak. The smooth tannins and balanced acidity make it a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes, from a juicy steak to a cozy lamb roast. Priced between $15 and $18 per bottle, it offers a consistently good wine at an affordable price. It's a great weekday wine, too.
Josh Cellars Red Blend
I find their “red blend” very, very similar to their cabernet. In fact, I regularly grab a bottle of each if available.
The Josh Cellars Red Blend is an equally good choice as their cabernet. However, it is actually more than just cabernet. This wine combines several grape varieties to create a smooth flavor profile. Expect to enjoy aromas of dark cherry, chocolate, and spice, leading to a palate filled with ripe berries and a touch of mocha. Its smooth and velvety texture makes it an excellent choice for both casual sipping and pairing with a variety of foods, from pizza to pasta dishes. The Red Blend’s price point, similar to the Cabernet Sauvignon, makes it an attractive option for any wine enthusiast.
Josh Cellars Chardonnay
For those who prefer white wines, I hear Josh Cellars Chardonnay is a good option. I don't really care for chardonnay, but hang out with friends who do. And they like the chardonnay by Josh Cellars.
It is celebrated for its balance of bright acidity and creamy richness. With flavors of ripe apple, pear, and a hint of citrus, complemented by notes of vanilla and butter from oak aging, it pairs wonderfully with seafood, poultry, and creamy pasta dishes. Its widespread availability at local grocery stores, like the cabernet and red blends above, ensures that you can enjoy a quality white wine without the need to search far and wide.
Why I like Local Availability
One of the best things about big brand wines like Josh Cellars is how easy they are to find. Here in Michigan, you can pick up Josh Cellars wines at any Kroger store. Whether you’re planning a dinner party, a casual get-together, or just looking to relax with a good glass of wine, it’s comforting to know that you can rely on your local store to have your favorites in stock. The convenience of having high-quality wine so close to home can’t be overstated. You don’t have to plan special trips to specialty stores or wait for online orders to arrive; you can simply add a bottle of Josh Cellars to your regular grocery run.
